A summary of the Permanent Mission of the Holy See's activities at the 60th Session.

The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, made the following interventions during the 60th Session of the Council:

 

  • 60th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council Item 3: Interactive Dialogue with the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons (17 Sept. 2025)
  • 60th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council Item 3: Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development (12 Sept. 2025)

  • 60th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council Item 3: Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery including its causes and consequences (12 Sept. 2025)

The Permanent  Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United also hosted the following side-event during the 60th Session:

   •⁠  ⁠Side Event – “No more wars! Building peace through human rights, development and international solidarity” (17 Sept. 2025).

   •⁠  ⁠Side Event – Family as a Primary Cornerstone: Upholding Parental Roles in Ensuring the Right to Education (16   Sept. 2025)

Pope Leo XIV presides over the Mass for the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed at Rome’s Monumental Verano Cemetery. He recalls that "Christian faith, founded upon Christ’s Paschal mystery, helps us to experience our memories as more than just a recollection of the past but also, and above all, as hope for the future.” Later, he visited the crypt of Saint Peter's Basilica to pray for the deceased Popes.

During the Mass on the Solemnity of All Saints, also the culmination of the Jubilee of the World of Education, Pope Leo XIV proclaims Saint John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Church. His legacy, the Pope emphasized, is to form people "so that they may shine like stars in their full dignity.”

The Apostolic Letter "Drawing New Maps of Hope", released on 28 October, marks the sixtieth anniversary of the conciliar declaration "Gravissimum Educationis". In it, Pope Leo XIV reaffirms and expands that document’s vision, applying it to the challenges of the present time.
